When the hollow winds of debt
Broke over her, she shook
And drew the future close
In a seductive suck of final breath.

Reclining, resigned along her shore
She pressed an aching ear, weighty with figures to
The breast of the sea. Then lashes, elbow, and
Regretful tongue made brackish love with death.
